These Payments Terms form part of the Tandem Tutors Terms of Service. Stripe payments are an optional collection method for an individual Tutor–Student relationship. Tutors may continue using Tandem's manual payment tracking and prepaid-credit tools.

1. Who can use Stripe payments

  • The initial Stripe payment feature is available only to self-paying Students who confirm they are at least 18 years old and accept the current version of these Payments Terms.
  • Parent and guardian payment accounts are not currently supported. A Student who cannot make the adult declaration must use a payment method agreed directly with their Tutor outside Stripe on Tandem.
  • A Tutor must complete Stripe Connect onboarding before Stripe can be enabled for a relationship.

2. Price and roles

  • Tutors set their own lesson rates.
  • Tandem's current platform fee is $0.00. The unavoidable total displayed for a lesson therefore equals the Tutor's displayed lesson rate, and the Tutor receives that full lesson rate. Tandem absorbs ordinary Stripe and Connect costs during this initial pricing period.
  • Zero platform pricing is not a permanent promise. Any future fee will be disclosed in the total price before it applies and notified in accordance with clause 9.
  • The Tutor is the settlement merchant for tutoring services. Tandem is the platform that controls collection and delayed transfer. Tutors remain responsible for their tax obligations, including GST and tax invoices where applicable.

3. Card setup and collection

  • Stripe-hosted pages collect and store payment details. Tandem does not receive or store full card numbers.
  • By saving a card and authorising Stripe collection for an individual Tutor in Student Settings, a Student authorises off-session collection of the prominently displayed total for each booked lesson.
  • Tandem attempts to charge each lesson 24 hours before its scheduled start, or promptly after confirmation when booked inside that window. Recurring lessons are charged one occurrence at a time.
  • A Stripe-enabled lesson cannot start through Tandem until its payment succeeds. If a bank requires authentication or a charge fails, the Student must complete the recovery steps shown by Stripe or agree with the Tutor to return the relationship to manual collection.

4. Holding and release

  • Tandem controls the captured proceeds until the Tutor completes the lesson or records a chargeable no-show or late Student cancellation. Tandem then instructs Stripe to transfer the Tutor's full snapshotted lesson rate.
  • Unclosed lessons are not automatically transferred or refunded. Tandem may contact the Tutor and administrators to resolve the lesson outcome.
  • This arrangement is not represented as escrow and does not use or depend on Stripe's private-preview funds-segregation feature.

5. Cancellations and rescheduling

  • Timely Student cancellations and Tutor cancellations result in an uncharged payment being cancelled or a captured payment being refunded in full.
  • A Tutor may explicitly record a Student no-show or a Student late cancellation after the disclosed cancellation cutoff. Those outcomes are chargeable and release the lesson amount to the Tutor.
  • A funded payment may remain attached to a rescheduled lesson only when the payer, Tutor, duration, and price remain unchanged. Otherwise it is voided or refunded and a new total must be accepted.

6. Refunds, disputes, and consumer rights

  • Approved refunds are returned to the original payment method. Bank processing times may apply. Where the Tutor has already received a transfer, Tandem may reverse it before issuing the refund.
  • Charge disputes may freeze the affected payment while Tandem and the Tutor provide evidence and Stripe or the card network decides the outcome. The statement descriptor shown before setup identifies the Tutor or the agreed Tandem/Stripe descriptor.
  • Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any guarantee, right, or remedy that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.

7. Stripe

  • Payment and payout services are provided by Stripe. By using Stripe payment features, Students agree to applicable Stripe terms and Tutors agree to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement and Tandem Tutor platform agreement.
  • Stripe may request identity, business, banking, or other information and may restrict charges or payouts to meet its legal obligations.

8. No subscription

  • Tandem does not currently charge a subscription for platform access. Optional Stripe lesson payments require a saved card, but are not a subscription and are charged per lesson occurrence.

9. Changes to these Payments Terms

  • We may update these Payments Terms, including future fee policies. Material changes will be notified by email or in-platform notice at least 14 days before taking effect and will not change historical lesson-price snapshots.
